This year's League of Canadian Poet's Poetry Fest and Conference takes place in St. John's, Newfoundland, from June 20 to 22nd. Yesterday I booked my flight.

I'll be staying on an extra couple of days to enjoy this place to which there's a good likelihood I'll never return, given that fuel & airline prices are going through the roof.

RW -- I'd like to meet you... is that possible, given that I'll be in your neck of the woods?

I'm no longer a paying member of LCP, but who knows...? Maybe I will be in town that weekend....

Speaking of LCP matters, I found the proposed amendment to membership bylaw 2:2 rather amusing. Reading the little slip of paper I was sent in the mail a few days ago, I found myself shaking my head at the fact that up until now, a literary press had to receive state-funding (read: 'state-approval') from the Canada Council in order to be considered a true literary press! Remarkable! I'm sure they must have erected the fallen statues of Stalin and Lenin somewhere in the Canada Council's and LCP's general offices!

I know The Walrus is an all-around typically-bland Canadian magazine, but you should read this:

Looks like homeschooling might yet have to extend into the post-secondary realm in order for 'post-secondary' to actually mean anything....
